The Old Testament mentions the word judgment 329 times, and there are a total of 408 references to the word in the entire Bible. Not one verse authorizes us to judge other people! However, we are supposed to judge ideas. We are supposed to, indeed we are commanded to judge ideas - to be workman "rightly dividing the word of truth!) 2 Timothy 2:15. Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments..." Exodus 24:3. "Ye shall do my judgments." Leviticus 18:4. "Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the Lord". Leviticus 19:37
If we notice our neighbor's house is on fire, should we say it is none of our business? Should we keep quiet when a brother or sister is in danger? "Woe unto you scribes and pharisees" Matthew 23:23-25Jesus is trying to warn as well as judge. When the Bible, correctly understood gives us certain information, and we see brothers and sisters going in the wrong direction, what are we supposed to do?
Especially since Paul wrote "woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" 1 Corinthians 9:16
We judge ideas, and warn others with the truth, especially as written in Revelation 14:6-12. And, within those verses is mention of a judgment coming upon all mankind! To get ready for that judgment, we warn others of the truth as it is in Jesus!!
Is There a Judgment?
There are those who are not convinced a loving God would judge and possibly destroy people who refuse to accept Him.
So, what does the Bible say about a judgment anyway?
Those who think like this must not know the Bible very well. Look at the Old Testament as well as the New Testament:
In the Old Testament, we have a story about destruction of the wicked in the journey out of Egypt. The people, a mixed multitude, worshipped a golden calf, and the Levites were commanded to destroy those who were doing that. Exodus 32:25-28
Here is a list, just in the book of Psalms. Psalms 9:7, Psalms 9:8, Psalms 9:16, Psalms 19:9, Psals 37:6, Psalms 89:14, Psals 97:2, Psalms 105:7, Psalms 111:7.
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Hebrews 9:27
Jesus knew there is a judgment. Matthew 5:21-22
He knows there is a judgment because He is our Advocate and High Priest in the judgment! 1 John 2:1-5
There is an investigative judgment which renders a final verdict as to who will be in heaven and who will not. Jesus Christ is our High Priest in this judgment. Hebrews 2:17, Hebrews 4:14, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26-28, Hebrews 8:1
Perhaps the most important text is the three angel's messages of Revelation 14, in particular where it says "the hour of his judgment is come." Revelation 14:6-12. Those verses warn us of an antichrist, which is going to be (and is now) very active in these latter days. Many people do not realize what is going on in the world today. There are sincere people who just don't know there is a Creator God, a beast power, the fact that Babylon has fallen, and we need to tell them! Of course there will be those who do not agree with us, but since what we say is based on the Bible, we must try to reach them. This is why we may be called judgmental. But, we judge ideas, warn others, and leave the results to God!
So, we warn others because Jesus is coming soon!
