Introduction

Since the Protestant Reformation started, the Catholic Church has attempted to distort, intimidate, punish, or kill dissenters. In recent years, the church has adopted a more conciliatory tone, and Protestant churches have become less critical. So much so, that there is virtually no criticism today of the Catholic Church from any mainstream church. In fact, these churches have either joined or become very sympathetic to the mother church.

Since the Concordat in 1929, the pope has become more and more active on the world stage. The pope dies in captivity after being captured by the French General Berthier in 1798, Look at him today!

Statement

"Wherever and whenever there is honest Catholicity; there will be a clear distinction drawn between truth and error, and Catholicity and all forms of error. When she thinks it good to use physical force, she will use it." "The Western Watchman" (Roman Catholic), of St. Louis, Dec. 24, 1908

Fact

"The [Roman Catholic] Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh-day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant." The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p. 4.

The Protestant Era is Dead!

The Bible talks about a system, an institution that has been on the world scene for more than a millennium, persecuting other Christians and demanding obedience upon threat of excommunication. The best explanation of 'antichrist' is NOT the idea of being against Christ. The best explanation, the biblical explanation, is an entity that takes the place of Christ on earth.

The institution known as the papacy has bragged about being the legitimate head of the Christian church for 1,500 years. The succession of popes supposedly traces its roots back to Peter, one of Christ's disciples. The abuses, persecution, and outright hubris is not matched by any other church on earth in its scope and audacity. The deaths at the hands of this church number in the tens of millions. Prominent Protestant leaders from the 15th to 19th centuries have identified the beast power coming up out of the sea in Revelation 13 as the Catholic Church! Today however, we have a complete shift in Protestant thinking. Instead of identifying the papacy as the antichrist, so-called Protestants are joining the ranks of the Catholic Church. This has become so apparent that it is safe to say THE PROTESTANT ERA IS DEAD.

“The popes filled the place of the vacant emperors at Rome, inheriting their power, prestige, and titles from paganism….Constantine left all to the Bishop of Rome….The papacy is but the ghost of the deceased Roman Empire, sitting crowned upon its grave. Pagan Rome gave its authority to papal Rome.” Stanley’s History, p 40. Quoted in Revelation Speaks, Seminars Unlimited, Keene, Texas, p. 105

“That the church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history”. Bible Readings for the Home, Review and Herald Publishing Assn, 1958, page 214

The history of the Christian church over the last 1,500 years has been one of consolidation of power by the mother church and tradition overtaking Scripture as the authority. Then came the period known as the Dark Ages. Then there was a time of persecution in the church. Some say that approximately 50 million people were killed for not conforming to the mother church. The evidence is just overwhelming. The Protestant Reformation was started as a protest against the authority of the papacy. Scripture became more important to the reformers than tradition. Justification by faith without the deeds of the law, confession to Jesus directly instead of to a priest, Sola Scriptura or Scripture above everything, all of these things drove Martin Luther and others to rebel against the authority of the church. Papacy received a deadly wound in 1798 when the French general Berthier captured the pope and he died. But, in 1929 an agreement was signed between the Vatican and the Italian government giving Vatican City its own independent status as a nation.

Since then the pope has traveled the world, spoken to kings and presidents, and spoken to leigislative bodies all over the world.

Truly, the papacy fulfills all the marks of the beast power in Revelation 13 and Daniel and Revelation generally. And Protestant churches are NOT protesting anything! The examples on the right and the references below will reinforce the ideas expressed here.

Statements by Catholic Authors

Catholic Statements (speaking of change of Sabbath) H.F. Thomas, Chancellor to Cardinal Gibbons, November 1895, “Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act…. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority.

"Reason and common sense demand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives: either Protestantism and the keeping holy of Saturday, or Catholicity and the keeping holy of Sunday. Compromise is impossible." The Catholic Mirror, December 23, 1893.

“God simply gave His {Catholic} Church the power to set aside whatever day or days, she would deem suitable as Holy Days. The Church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days." Vincent J. Kelly, "Forbidden Sunday and Feast-Day Occupations", Pg 2.

"Protestants...accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change...But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that in accepting the Bible, in observing the Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the church, the Pope." Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950.

priest with wafer “Thus the priest may, in a certain manner, be called the creator of his Creator, since by saying the words of consecration, he creates, as it were, Jesus in the Sacrament….”

When examining one's beliefs, it is always good to go to the source. The following statements are from the Catechism of the Catholic Church United States Catholic Conference, Inc., 1994:

""The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living, teaching office of the Church alone....This means that the task of interpretation has been entrusted to the bishops in communion with the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome".
P.31

"The third commandment of the Decalogue recalls the holiness of the sabbath: "The seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord." P. 580

We all gather on the day of the sun, for it is the first day [after the Jewish Sabbath, but also the first day] when God, separating matter from darkness, made the world; and on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead."

The sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation inaugarated by the Reserrection of Christ.

"Sunday... is to be observed as theforemost holy day of obligation in the universal Church" (CIC, can. 1246.1). "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass." P.586.
